Man, there are about twenty different ways I could pitch this post to you, and I've opted, for my own sake, to just be direct. An opportunity for me to teach English at a Chinese University has come up, and I'm really thinking about taking it.
I went to China a couple years ago as you may recall (the very trip that birthed this blog), and loved it. Since returning to the States I've thought about going back and serving there again in some form or fashion, but I didn't want to be dependant on raising money every time I went overseas. I wanted to be able to fund it myself (tent-maker style, ya know?) and now it seems I'll have a chance to do just that.
I'm in the process of swapping paper work with the appropriate people and I'm still learning a lot about what this will look like but basically I'd be teaching for a year, with a salary and I'd be given a place to stay. Also, when my contract is up, they'd reimburse me for my plane ticket. Not bad.
So not only would this trip allow me to be Jesus to people who haven't heard of him, it would also speed up my reaching the learn-another-language goal, and it would get me out of my so far terribly predictable and unexciting life. Thoughts?

Make sure you keep us updated on this! and i feel as though you will aslo be pleased to know i got new climbing shoes at the rei in austin the other day!
d.o.
i really bet that you don't care what i think, but here is my 2 cents. i think this is a great idea! i guess i am biased though, living in asia and all. i have had lots of friends who have taught at a univ. in shanghai, got paid, had a place to live, and shared jesus with people while they were teaching.
i would be happy to pass along any info. to you. definitely pray about it more and make sure it's where He's leading you. but i could bet that even just going for a year will change your life forever!!!
sounds like an amazing opportunity, man. can't wait to hear more updates.
D.O.,
I have three words for you -
Go. Go. Go.
i'm a fan of asia.
i'm a fan of teaching.
i'll be pr for your decision! i think you would do a great job.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

you love people, you love overseas, you love the English language (crosswords, no?) --its a perfect match!!
everybody's saying "Go" and "do it"
i want to give you something different
totally rad guys like you have a lot to offer the people of their Republic of China.
You, my friend, are in high demand.
You can teach English in China anytime you want. Just say the word (dui).
this may be the time when you need to go. it may not be. that is up to you and Jesus. i'm just saying don't think this is a door that will ever be shut to you, rad native English-speaking coolguy with college diploma.
i'm also saying, i'm sitting with Cody Kimmel at OUR kitchen table at OUR house in austin. we have a futon and a hide-a-bed that would like to hold you through a night or two before you go off leaving the country.
