No, I'm not the loser because of the awesome mustache I had in that picture. I'm the loser because, well... this is how it went:
(A real phone call that took place last night between Mikey Mills and myself)
D.O.: Did Laura see her post on my blog?
Mikey: [turns to the side and asks Laura]... No, hold on.
[Time passes while Mikey and Laura read the post written in Laura's honor]
D.O.: Does she love that? I made the picture in GIMP.
Mikey: Yeah, that's good... [increasing snickering in the background] This is real funny...
D.O.: What?
Mikey: Laura didn't answer the question on that post.
D.O.: It said Laura!
Laura in the background: You should click the link on that comment...
D.O.: [Goes and clicks said link]... Holy crap... I'm such an idiot...
All: [Eruptions of laughter]
It turns out that Laura Nutter didn't win (or participate) in the poetry contest. It was Laura Stiller, wife of my Arlington friend, Danny Stiller... I don't know much about her, but, since she really did win the contest, I'll tell you what I do know.
Laura is married to my Arlington friend Danny Stiller. They have a married people blog that I just added to the "theirs" section of my links. She confessed to reading my blog back in March and we here at odfm are very happy to have her. She has about a million different blogs. Her profile lives here. It's overwhelming.
Congratulations Laura Stiller! No congratulations to Laura Nutter.

hehe - thanks to Google Reader I saw your previous "contest winner" post and just laughed . . . I figured:
1. same first name, last name ends in "er" - same difference.
2. serves me right for being a silent blog stalker of people who know my husband
3. only people who've had their picture with the famous DO can win one of his contests
And then my little Google Reader alerted me today(am I obsessive about reading blogs or what?!) that DO had updated his blog again. Thanks for the laugh and the lovely shout out. I'll have to comment more often or sign my full name to avoid confusion in the future. :-)
Ha! That's awesome...
Well I'm glad I made today monumental. I like to max out birthday wishes. I did abstain from the MySpace comment (let's not be excessive, right?). I like to post a birthday blog for all my regular readers (explaining why there have only been 3 birthday posts in the Suitcase Diaries' history).
This mistaken contest winner post, while embarrassing to be sure, has nothing on the shame I experienced over that snail note -- so let's not be hasty with the comparisons.
DO(H)!
I did not realize that your birthday was yesterday...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
[though a little late]
And as I read your post I wondered something. When you say "we here at odfm" who is the 'we'?
curious.
